The John Galt Racing 1974 BMW model 2002 had new fenders and doors made, painted, and mounted in preparation for the June 2017 track day and July 2017 races. The broken front bumper was welded and fully repaired. Crash damage from earlier races is now fully repaired. This video shows the driver’s side door being riveted together as the car nears race readiness.

In preparation for the upcoming races in July 2017, the John Galt Racing team replaced the tires on the 1974 BMW model 2002 with Hankook High Performance Ventus R-S4 tires. The exact tire specifications can be found on the Hankook website by clicking here.

The tires were purchased from and mounted on the wheels by America’s Tire Store at 2915 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. The team picked them up in the shop truck (see below).

After bringing the tires back to the shop, they were mounted the car. Body work is still being completed, so the front fenders are missing in the photos which allows for a better view of the tires (see below).

2002 BMW Sway Bar Replacement

2002 BMW On Lift

John Galt Racing is replacing the non-adjustable sway bars on the 1974 2002 BMW race car with adjustable sway bars. This allows lower spring rates (to increase mechanical grip) while minimizing body roll for better stability, control, and limiting driver fatigue.
